VOLUNTEERING

Communities In Schools has many opportunities available for interested volunteers. Take the first step in your volunteer journey by completing the CIS Volunteer Form!

GUEST SPEAKING

Inspire a student by sharing insight on where you work, what you do, what it’s like and how students can achieve the same success. Answer these questions: What do you do for a living? What made you choose this career? What advice do you have for students who want a career like yours? What kind of educational path is needed for your career? These guest speaking opportunities expose students to career options they may not be familiar with.

If speaking as part of a group is more comfortable, CIS also hosts career panel opportunities. Three to four professionals from the same company or different industries can bring a variety of experiences that speak to the diverse backgrounds and goals that our students have.

Workforce development is a focus area for high school students in all program areas. CIS strives to do everything possible to prepare students not just for graduation, but for a successful future.

LITERACY DAYS

Up until third grade, students are learning to read. In fourth grade and above, students are reading to learn. There are wonderful benefits to reading to children, such as improved language and listening skills and improved imagination and creativity. If you or a group from your company or organization would like to read to students during one of our literacy days, please contact us at volunteer@cisjax.org.
